Pravoslavna crkva i vjernici danas slave dan posvećen Svetom apostolu Onisimu. Život ovog sveca pokazao je da ništa nije nemoguće i da je, uz pomoć i blagoslov Hrista, svaki san dostižan i ostvariv.
Kako kaže hrišćanska legenda, pored 12 “velikih” apostola koji su bili prvi Isusovi učenici, on je izabrao i još 70 “malih” apostola kojima je za zadatak dato da propovijedaju Jevanđelja i šire hrišćanstvo. Upravo je Onisim bio jedan od tih “malih” apostola.
On je bio rob jednog bogataša u Frigiji, međutim, pobjegao je u Rim gdje je jednom prilikom čuo Jevanđelje i to od apostola Pavla. Tada je rješio da želi da i sam postane hrišćanin. Priča kaže da je nedugo potom i njegov vlasnik rješio da pređe u hrišćanstvo, a bivši rob i vlasnik su se čak i pomirili zahvaljujući posredstvu apostola Pavla koji je napisao pismo njegovom vlasniku.
Između ostalog, Pavle je tada napisao i “molimo te za čedo moje Onisima, kojega rodih u okovima svojim… Jer možda se zato i rastade s tobom za kratko da ga dobiješ za vječnost, ne više kao roba, nego više od roba, brata ljubljenoga.”
Sveti Onisim kasnije je postao episkop i dugo je vodio hrišćansku zajednicu. Kao starac, u vrijeme Trajanovog gonjenja, uhapšen je i doveden u Rim gdje je, nakon što je odbio da se odrekne Hrista, ubijen, a legenda kaže da je neka izuzetno bogata žena njegovo tijelo uzela i sahranila ga u srebrnom kovčegu.
Ovaj svetac smatra se zaštitnikom svih ljudi koji bez obzira na svoje porijeklo i materijalne mogućnosti, vrijednim radom stižu do predmeta svojih želja. I treba danas da mu se pomolite!
