Gromada leda veličine Menhetna odvalila se sa Grenlanda: Ovi gradovi na Jadranu bi mogli da budu potopljeni
Ledeni brijeg dug šest kilometara odvalio se sa glečera na istoku Grenlanda.
Profesor Dejvid Holand sa njujorškog univerziteta, ekspert na polju proučavanja okeana, rekao je AP-u da se tako nešto značajno na Grenlandu nije dogodilo više od decenije.
Trenutak kada se ledeni brijeg odvojio od glečera primjetila je njegova supruga Deniz 22. juna koja je boravila na Helhajm glečeru prikupljajući podatke o promjenama nivoa okeana.

Holand je rekla da se u video snimku ubrzanom 20 puta vidi kako nestaje tri odsto večnog leda na Grenlandu za 30 minuta.
Komad leda koji se odvojio od grenlandskog Helheim glačera je ogroman, dugačak oko šest kilometara, i zauzeo bi, kako su naučnici opisali, prostor od donjeg Menhetna do Midtauna u Njujorku.
Naučnici vjeruju da će film, snimljen u trenutku kada se ledeni brijeg odvaja od ledenika u istočnom Grenlandu pomoći istraživačima da razumijeju uzroke porasta nivoa mora širom svijeta.
– Porast globalnog nivoa mora je nesporan i posledičan – rekao je Dejvid Holand.
On kaže da ovaj snimak, koliko je važan i za poznavanje načina na koji se odvajaju i tope ledeni brijegovi, isto toliko je važan i za precizniju simulaciju promjena koje bi mogle uticati na klimatske promjene.
To će omogućiti naučnicima da predvide te promjene i planiraju odgovor na njih, jer kako se najavljuje, s obzirom na globalno zagrijevanje ovakvi slučajevi će biti sve češći.
Najveću pretnju već godinama predstavlja antarktički ledeni greben Larsen C čije se ivice sve više tope, a raste prijetnja da bi on mogao da se odlomi u narednih 100 godina i izazove podizanje nivoa mora širom svijeta do tri metra.
To bi imalo brojne posledice na život stanovnika priobalnih područja: poplave izazvane nevremenom, gubitak obradivih površina i prodiranje soli u podzemne vode, upozoravaju naučnici.
Po veličini, Larsen C je četvrti ledeni greben na svetu i prostire se na površini od oko 55. 000 kvadratnih kilometara. Dva manja grebena na istočnoj strani poluostrva – Larsen A i Larsen B – odlomila su se u proteklih 20 godina.
KAKO BI SE PORAST NIVOA MORA ODRAZIO HRVATSKO PRIMORJE
Klimatske promene usled kojih dolazi do otapanja glečera na Grenlandu, a koje dovodi do podizanja nivoa mora, mogle bi u budućnosti da dovedu do nestanka pojedinih hrvatskih gradova.
Ukoliko bi nivo mora narastao za sedam metara, kao što se predviđa, to bi u slučaju hrvatske obale značilo praktično nestanak Rovinja, Poreča, Fažane, Umaga, Novigrada, razbijanje Briona na nekoliko hridi, prodiranje mora dolinom reke Mirne sve do Motovuna i dalje, skoro do pola širine Istre.
Trećina Pule bi mogla da bude potopljena – Printskrin: Google Maps
Ista stvar dogodila bi se i uz dolinu reke Raše, a skoro trećina Pule bi bila potopljena. Uprkos strmoj obali, ni Rijeka više ne bi imala ni rivu ni luku, ni širok pojas skoro celog centra uz more, a najveći delovi bolničkog kompleksa bili bi neupotrebljivi ili sasvim potopljeni.
Rab bi se pretvorio u tri manja ostrva, a Goli otok bi se sveo na sitnu hrid usred mora. Nestalo bi pola Zadra, a Biograd bi postao “Biograd pod morem”. Vransko jezero postalo bi duboki zaliv, a Šibenik bi prošao slično kao i Rijeka. Kad je Trogr u pitanju, prošao bi isto kao i Zadar.
Ukoliko se obistine predviđanja, nestaće pola Zadra – Printskrin: Google Maps
U Splitu bi na Poljudu mogao da se igra još samo vaterpolo, u luci bi u tom slučaju pristajale podmornice umesto brodova. Bile bi potopljene sve uvale od Marjana do Stobreča kao i Dioklecijanova palata. Split bi u tom slučaju definitivno postao disfunkcionalan i verovatno pogodan za život na samo polovini svoje današnje teritorije.
Dubrovnik bi mogao skroz da nestane.
U splitskoj luci pristajale bi podmornice umesto brodova, a život bi bio funkcionalan samo na polovini današnje teritorije grada – Printskrin: Google Maps
