Istraživanja, čiji se rezultati zasnivaju na podacima prikupljenim među 600.000 Amerikanaca, pokazala su da je efikasnost vakcina počela da pada kada je delta varijanta postala dominantna.

Jedno objašnjenje bi moglo da bude postupno slabljenje imuniteta, a drugo da delta soj na “dovitljiviji“ način uspijeva da izbjegne zamke imunološkog sistema . Ali može da bude u pitanju i kombinacija ovih pretpostavki.

Rezultati studije su pokazali da je, u borbi sa delta sojem, od tri različita proizvođača vakcina koje su odobrene u Americi najuspješnija Modernina vakcina. Ova vakcina štiti 95 odsto, dok Fajzerova vakcina štiti 80 odsto, a vakcina Džonson i Džonson 60 odsto.

To odgovara rezultatima manje studije klinike Mejo iz avgusta mjeseca koja je takođe pokazala da Modernina vakcina bolje štiti od delta soja nego vakcina kompanije Fajzer/Biontek.
